Philanthropy New Zealand is the national peak body for philanthropy and is a nonprofit membership organisation. Its members are trusts and foundations, families, businesses and individuals who want to make a difference through their own philanthropic giving.

Philanthropy New Zealand will promote effective philanthropy and grantmaking by supporting members, providing leadership and fostering connections through a facilitative environment.

Ethics and Law

To maintain public trust by acting with integrity, adhering to the highest ethical principles and practices, and abiding by the laws that govern philanthropy.

Effective Governance
To achieve effective governance by ensuring performance in the stewardship of assets, donor intentions, fiduciary responsibility and sound decision-making.

Transparency
To be transparent in our relationships with the community, grant-seekers and donors.

Respectful Relationships
To build constructive relationships with grant-seekers, donors, government and other stakeholders by acting with respect, openness, discretion and understanding.

Engaged Learning
To foster continuous learning and reflection by engaging trustees and board members, staff, grant-seekers and donors in thoughtful dialogue and education.

Effective Grantmaking
To develop, promote and use effective and thoughtful philanthropic/grantmaking practices.
