Funding Fundamentals course to support great giving

Looking to gain an understanding of giving in Aotearoa New Zealand; your role in it; and access tips and tools to maximise your impact as a funding advisor or philanthropist? 

Philanthropy New Zealand Tōpūtanga Tuku Aroha o Aotearoa has contracted giving expert Dr Christina Howard to lead the development of a new professional development programme designed for those new or recent to the sector. People growing their practice, or more experienced hands wanting a refresh and update on latest trends and best practice may also find the course useful.

PNZ FUNDER network gathering

For the first time in a long while, we are having a face-to-face gathering for our funder members!

If you are a PNZ funder member join us for specific sessions focussed on education and climate action (November 2nd), and arts, youth, Māori aspirations and family philanthropy (November 3rd). These sessions will be hosted in Takapuna and Auckland City.

Those attending the Funding Fundamentals workshop on the 2nd November (10-3pm) may wish to stay on in Auckland for the sessions on the 3rd!

PNZ is partnering with the Institute of Directors to provide their non-profit governance training (with Jo Cribb) at a 20% discount to PNZ members. About the speakers:

Laura O’Connell Rapira (they/she/ia) is a takatāpui human from the lands of Te Ātiawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāruahine as well as Counties Kerry and Clare in Ireland. Laura is the Executive Director of Movement Building at the Foundation for Young Australians and prior to that was the Director of ActionStation. Laura is also the Kaiwhakahaere of the Youth Movement Fund Aotearoa and serves on the board of JustSpeak.

Caitlyn Fogarty has been a Trustee since 2008 and Executive Officer of the Fogarty Foundation since 2018. She worked closely with the Fogarty EDvance Program following her teaching experience and commercial studies. As Executive Director, Caitlyn supports the Foundation’s partners and connecting programs. Caitlyn enjoys speaking and presenting at a range of events, proudly sharing the impact of the Fogarty Foundation.

 
 

Post-Government Budget insights webinar

Making Net Zero a Reality: driving down emissions in investment portfolios webinar

Asset owners (including trustees) and other organisational leaders have a crucial role to play in harnessing the power of investment for climate action.  Previous research has shown widespread interest in taking steps towards net zero but has also showed that more information and support is needed. PNZ are pleased to host Barry Coates, CEO of the charity Mindful Money in this webinar on taking steps to drive down emissions in investment portfolios. This session is open to anyone but has been prepared with trusts and foundations in mind.

Local Government Funders' Network

Join other local authority funders for this Philanthropy New Zealand Zoom meeting to connect, share information and discuss common issues such as:

  • funding expos and collaboration,

  • matching funding,

  • and the Covid recovery and what councils are doing to prioritise funding for this.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Paul Prestidge, Nelson City Council and Sandra Larsen, Hamilton City Council.

While PNZ networks are usually for PNZ members only as a member benefit, this meeting will include both PNZ members and non-members to ensure a wide cross-section of local government organisations across the country. PNZ Relationships and Events Manager, Stephanie Kemp, will speak briefly to the benefits of membership within the meeting.

Our October Member Spotlight features Te Pūoho Katene (Ngāti Toa, Ngāti Whātua) from Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust. Te Pūoho is talking about a new Social Return on Investment report being released in October, evaluating the impact of his Trust’s 4-year investment into Te Kete Aronui: a tikanga-based literacy and numeracy programme delivered in partnership with Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency throughout the North Island. This session will be of interest to those interested in strengths-based impact measurement, and also those who fund into or deliver services in the literacy and numeracy space.
